After battling addiction in the 70s, Jane sustained sobriety for fifteen years, achieved an advertising career (Sotheby's), married, and had two daughters. Relapsing after a traumatic divorce, hosting a cooking show (CNBC) became a turning point. All things culinary became her anchor, a tool for recovery and family connection.

“…I landed in Silver Hill detoxing from codeine cough syrup. In 1994, electronic prescriptions didn't exist, only a handwritten script was necessary. The outlaw in me had a dozen aliases at as many drugstores—empty brown bottles littered my garbage. I continued to ‘work’ and believed my motherhood wasn’t affected. Faced with a custody battle, I met with an attorney (in AA), and in five minutes he nailed me. “I can’t help you and unless you get sober, you’ll lose custody” —he was right! Four weeks after discharge, an opportunity to host a cooking segment fell into my lap (CNBC)…I could barely brush my teeth. ..” Cooking saved me...and thirty years later still does.
